Today at noon Richard debuts his new movie review show on CFRB NewsTalk 1010 in Toronto. Here’s the press release: Richard Crouse Watches Bad Movies So You Don’t Have To! At noon on Saturday April 5, 2008 Richard Crouse debuts his exciting new movie review show on News Talk 1010 CFRB! Richard has appeared twice weekly on the station’s Bill Carroll Morning Show for the past year, and now expands his segment to the weekly half-hour Richard Crouse At the Movies.
The show will focus on the newest films in the theatres and on DVD and feature reviews for the best (and worst) movies of the week, complete with audio clips, music and interviews with prominent actors and filmmakers. Other show highlights will include a feature on great overlooked movies; a segment on movie clichés; we’ll go to Mephisto’s Megaplex and take a poll of the best of the worst movies ever made; stories on the films that big stars would rather forget; Richard’s Top Ten Lists of favorite movie dialogue and pieces on good Canadian films—yes, there is such a thing.
“CFRB is thrilled to expand Richard's role on the radio station from two appearances a week on the Bill Carroll Morning Show to now include a 30 minute show Saturdays at noon. Richard Crouse At The Movies will help listeners decide on what movies to see in theatres or what DVDs to rent each weekend.
“Adding Richard Crouse At The Movies to kick off our Saturday afternoon line up is another example of how Newstalk 1010 CFRB provides listeners with the information they need when they need it,” says CFRB Operations Manager Steve Kowch.
The first show on April 5 will feature reviews for the new George Clooney comedy Leatherheads and Martin Scorsese’s Rolling Stones concert film Shine a Light as well as a look at the Academy Award winning There Will Be Blood on DVD and much more.
“This show’s eclectic mix of reviews, news and interviews plus my unique point of view should fit the CFRB mandate of providing informative and entertaining radio shows,” says Crouse who started his broadcasting career in 1979 as the junior announcer at CKBW in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, a job Donald Sutherland had held thirty years before. “I’ve always wanted to do a radio show like this and couldn’t be happier that CFRB is giving me the chance.”

In April 2006, Michael Sparaga, the writer-producer of the Canadian independent movie, Sidekick, traveled across Canada as part of a Telefilm Canada-funded theatrical tour, in an effort to generate enough positive word-of-mouth to lure a Canadian theatrical distributor to release his award-winning film in theatres. While chronicling the ups-and-downs of his coast-to-coast adventure, he also took to the streets to interview everyday Canadians and film industry professionals about their knowledge of and thoughts on Canadian films and the Canadian film industry. Honest, frank and often humorous, Maple Flavour Films is a documentary that’s not afraid to ask, “Do you know the difference between a Genie, Juno and a Gemini?”

trailers are the single most important tool in the movie marketing business.
Over the years the creation of movie trailers has been honed to a fine art and

movie from Lost producer JJ Abrams
turned convention on its head recently with a teaser trailer that didn’t
feature big stars or music, just one striking image. There’s
a party. Outside you hear a loud thump. Lights flicker and everyone rushes
outside just I time for the head of The Statue of Liberty, torn from its body,
to skid to a halt in from to them. Fade to black. No music, no title, nothing

the title of “best children's book of the past 70 years,” several schools have
banned the book (including some in Canada) because of a perceived

CANADIANS LOOKING
FOR ACTION THIS SEASON
The Hunt Is
On For Canada’s
Ultimate Action Fan – with a
$10,000 reward
Scoring some action is a priority for over half of Canadians
this holiday season – on-screen action, that is. According to a recent
Panasonic poll, 54% want to feel the need for speed by watching an action movie
during the holidays. And it’s no surprise more men than women are looking for
an action fix. But which movies pack the best action punch? Leading Canadian
film critics share their picks to settle in with on a cold night with a warm
mug of eggnog.
Indiana Jones vs. John McClane
Movie experts, including Canada AM’s Richard
Crouse, CBC’s Jelena Adzic and National Post’s Chris Knight were charged with
the difficult task of narrowing down a list of their top five action movie
picks – and from there, the public cast their vote. What movie came out on top?
The 1981 classic that launched the Indiana Jones legacy, Raiders of the Lost
Ark won out for best action. Die Hard (1988) was on its tail,
and The Matrix (1999), Rocky (1976) and Scarface (1983) all
scored high to round out the top five list for on-screen movie action.
"Action movies are so popular because they
appeal to our in-bred notions of good and evil; right and wrong,” says Richard
Crouse, film critic for CTV’s Canada
AM. “The plots are generally simple, there's a bad person and there's a good
person and after some back and forth the good person is going to come out on top.
The hero may be bloodied and bruised, but they're inevitably going to win, and
I think that appeals to the innate goodness in us all."
And just how do Canucks get their action fix? Forty-eight
per cent like to curl up on the couch with a snack, while 23% prefer to dim the
lights and crank the volume to get into the mood. Socializing is important – 25% enjoy getting
together with friends to share the thrill of action, and we’re starting to go
high-def, with 19% saying they prefer their action in high definition.
Calling all action
enthusiasts!
Movie aficionados have a chance to show their
passion for action starting tomorrow, as Panasonic launches the hunt for Canada’s
ultimate action fan! The reward? A $10,000 action lover’s dream: a 50-inch
VIERA high-definition plasma television and home audio system to screen their
favourite action scenes, plus a trip to the TELUS Whistler World Cup in
February 2008 to catch all the action up close. During their stay, the winner

Also... "Romantic
comedies are the most reliably predictable form of movie entertainment. The
template for many 21st century rom coms goes something like this:
Boy meets girl. Boy loses Girl. Boy realizes the error of his ways and runs through
a busy airport to win back the heart of his soul mate who is about to start a
new life elsewhere. We’ve seen it a thousand times and usually know how the
movie will end before it even starts, so the challenge for filmmakers is to
keep the journey interesting. How the lovers wind up together is as important
as why.
Good Luck Chuck follows the formula to a tee—everything except the
interesting journey part." To read the rest of Richard's review of Good Luck Chuck and new reviews for The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Amanda Bynes' new comedy Sydney White click here.

July 26, 2007 "No Reservations succeeds because of one of the performance by its two
Oscar nominated females. No, it’s not Catherine Zeta Jones as the control freak

Abigail Breslin, a child actress so unpretentious and natural that she steals

July 19, 2007 "Adam
Sandler might be the most perplexing movie star working today. He churns out a
movie or two a year, makes a decent grab at the box office and occasionally
even earns good reviews. The thing that makes him so bothersome to me isn’t the
boy-man character he’s perfected in movies like Billy Madison and Happy
Gilmour or his penchant for bathroom humor, it’s his inconsistency. Just
when I thought he had turned a corner with the excellent Reign Over Me from earlier this year into interesting adult roles
he slaps me in the face with his follow-up, I

most successful movie producer on the planet. Nicknamed “Mr. Blockbuster”
Bruckheimer is either regarded as a genius or a lowbrow hack, depending on your
tolerance for rapid gunfire, slo-mo car crashes and scripts with the emotional
depth of a lunch tray. Movies such as Bad Boys, The Rock and Con
Air have made him very rich and while he busied himself circling the earth
in his Gulfstream IV private jet, thinking up new and insidious ways to blow
things up, a trio of British filmmakers came up with a film called Hot Fuzz
that both pays tribute to, and takes the Mickey out of, the Bruckheimer
