Richard back for 5th year as host of Lakeshorts Film Festival Gala!

Screen Shot 2015-05-03 at 12.34.30 PMOn Saturday May 2, 2015 Richard hosted the 5 Annual Lakeshorts International Film Festival Gala Screening. A sold out crowd enjoyed films from all over the world, including picks from The United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Spain, Kosovo and India.  For more on the festival follow them on Twitter @lakeshortsfilm for daily updates!

A taste of Richard’s opening speech:

Wow… it’s nice to see that not everybody went to see Avengers: Age of Ultron… or mortgaged the house to get the pay-per-view Mayweather v Pacquiao fight. Why get pummelled by superheroes or boxers when you can come spend rime with us? I think you made the right choice.

It’s been five years! Let’s give Michelle and Chris and Raj and everfyone a big round of applause, but let’s also acknowledge you, the audience. Without you—and I have seen many of the same faces here year after year, there would be no reason for us to be here.

Tonight we present a glimpse of the world via shorts from all over the world. Of course Canada is represented—we’re making some of the best short films in the world these days—but as the programmers act locally, bringing us the terrific fifth year of the festival, they’ve been thinking globally and tonight treat us to movies from The United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Spain, Kosovo and India.

The things that bind all these movies is simple—a desire to tell stories and a love of cinema. That is truly an international language and it’s what we’re here to celebrate tonight.
